Pre-Bankruptcy Counseling Services Are Available in Colorado

Before filing for bankruptcy, the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 requires that you complete a budget briefing/credit counseling session with a nonprofit Credit Counseling agency approved* by the Executive Office of the United States Trustee. At the end of this counseling session, you will receive a Certificate of Completion that your bankruptcy attorney will need to file with your petition.

Regardless of the method you choose to receive your budget briefing, here's what you can expect:

• You will be asked to provide information about your household income and expenses, from which we will establish a realistic budget.
• You will be asked to provide information about your current debt.
• You will be provided with personalized suggestions regarding your current financial situation, including your options for dealing with debt and establishing a practical budget.
• You will be provided a Certificate of Completion for you to deliver to your legal counsel.
